Welcome to Chaplin Bend Farm!

Chaplin Bend Farm is a 270 acre parcel nestled in a long loop of the beautiful Chaplin River in central Kentucky.
I bought the farm in December 2011 with the intention of turning it into a retreat and wildlife preserve.  When I first saw the farm, I was captivated by its potential.  It has long frontage on a very beautiful and very fishable river; a good-sized lake; large open ridge tops that should be ideal for dove and quail; a wooded bottom for deer and turkeys; and fantastic vistas from the highest ridges.  But there is a lot of work to do as well:  roads to be repaired and improved; acres upon acres of fescue pasture that need to be converted to native grass and food plots; steep hillsides that need to be replanted in hardwood trees; cedar thickets to be managed; and much more.  We'll also need to repair the dam on the lake, plan and build one or two more lakes, remove and recycle an old barn and some old fencing, and build a cabin.  What fun!

The purpose of this blog is to document the work that will be required to accomplish my vision for the farm and to share my discoveries, victories, and defeats along the way with others of similar interests.  I'll do my best to post regularly about the various projects I undertake and share what I'm learning as I go.  I hope you'll enjoy it!
